Volkwin Marg gründete mit Meinhard von Gerkan 1965 die Architektensozietät gmp. Marg war Präsident des Bundes Deutscher Architekten und Professor an der RWTH Aachen für Architektur und Städtebau. Seit 2007 ist er Prinzipal der Academy for Architectural Culture (AAC).

This book examines the recent stadium architecture of the world-renowned architecture firm von Gerkan, Marg and Partners. For nearly half a century von Gerkan, Marg and Partners has been designing and constructing buildings around the world homes, hotels, museums, concert halls, office buildings, hospitals, research and educational facilities, and stadiums. Fourteen arenas that have recently been completed or are near completion are the focus of this book that takes readers from the brand new football stadiums in South Africa to those in Brazil, Poland, and the Ukraine. Particular attention is paid to the South African stadiums designed for the FIFA World Soccer Cup, due to take place in the summer of 2010. Each project profile includes information about planning and design, and is illustrated with photographs, plans, sketches, models, and fold-out pages that allow the reader to understand the scale of each structure. An interview with Volkwin Marg, one of the firm s two founders, and one of his partners, Hubert Nienhoff, rounds out this fascinating tour of the world s most exciting arenas.
