Gil & Moti: Totally Devoted to You

Das Künstlerduo Gil & Moti lebt und arbeitet seit 1994 zusammen. Ihre Entscheidung, das Leben als dauernde Performance anzusehen und Kunst als Lebensform zu verstehen, prägt alle Bereiche des Oeuvre: Malerei, Zeichnung, Installation, Video und Fotografie. Mit ihrer Kunst eignen sie sich den öffentlichen Raum an und erforschen seine Auswirkungen auf zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen. Die Analyse der Relation zwischen Privatleben und Öffentlichkeit greift die aktuellen Debatten über Anderssein und Regeln des Zusammenlebens auf und hinterfragt unsere Haltung zu nationaler, religiöser, geschlechtlicher und gesellschaftlicher Identität auf spielerische Weise. Sechs ihrer wichtigsten Projekte aus den letzten zehn Jahren erzählen Geschichten im Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Realität und Fantasie in profanen bis hochartifiziellen Bildern. Geboren als jüdische Israelis, leben Gil & Moti heute in den Niederlanden.

Their decision to regard life as a perpetual performance, and art as a life form, influences all areas of their oeuvre: painting, drawing, installation, video, and photography. Using their art, they appropriate public space and investigate its influence on interpersonal relationships. In analyzing the relationships between private and public life, they refer to current debates on otherness and the rules of coexistence, questioning our attitude toward national, religious, gender, and social identity in playful ways. Six of their most important projects from the last decade relate stories situated in the field of tension between reality and fantasy in images that range from the profane to highly artificial. Born Jewish Israelis, Gil & Moti now live in the Netherlands.
