Dani Riman is the ultimate lesbian Casanova.

Dani, a twenty-five-year-old genderqueer lesbian who wants to finish her first novel, may be having trouble writing, but she doesn't have any problems getting beautiful women to sleep with her. That is, until she travels to Venice, Italy, the City of Love and Romance, and meets Sara, an alluring poetess and tour guide. Then all bets are off. What is it about this hard-to-get tour guide obsessed with Venetian history that makes her immune to Dani's charms?

Dani is notoriously distracted by her sexual conquests. At least, that's what her best friend, Veronica, claims. A successful food writer, Veronica is annoyed by Dani's lack of follow-through, her one-night stands, and her inability to put down the torch for her closeted high school girlfriend, Michelle. So, she makes a bet with Dani, and when Dani loses, the penalty is she must go to Venice to write. Once there, Dani is haunted both by her past and thoughts of the elusive Sara, who teaches her about the dark history of the Venetian Jewish ghetto even as she piques Dani's amorous interest.
