Ji-Ho Song is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea. He received his B.S. (1969), M.S. (1971) and Dr. Engineering (1974) in Mechanical Engineering at Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, under the guidance of Professor Makoto Kikukawa. In 1975, he was Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in Lehrstuhl Mechanik A at Technische Universität München, Germany, with the help of Professor Klaus Heckel. In 1977, he joined Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, and then moved to Osaka University, Japan, in 1982 as Research Associate with the support of Professor Masahiro Jono. He returned to Korea in 1988 as Associate Professor at KAIST on the recommendation of Professor Youn-Yong Earmme, becoming Professor Emeritus in 2011. He received four times departmental outstanding teaching awards. His principal field of research is in fatigue and fatigue-related database and expert system. He published several books: Faigue Crack-Crack Closure and Growth Rate Prediction (in Japanese) in 2005 with Japanese Professor Masahiro Jono, (Translation in Korean) in 2006 with Korean Professor Chung-Youb Kim, Introduction to Reliability Engineering (in Korean) in 2007 with Korean Professor Jun-Hyub Park, Dictionary of Fatigue Fracture and Fatigue Strength of Materials (Fatiguepedia of Materials) (in Korean) in 2011 with Korean Professors Jun-Hyub Park and Chung-Youb Kim, and Korean Researcher Hak-Joo Lee, Fundamentals of Fatigue Analysis (in Korean) in 2016 with Korean Professor Chung-Youb Kim, and Expert System for Fatigue Life Predictions (CD Included) in 2017 with Korean Professors Chung-Youb Kim and Jun-Hyub Park. Fundamentals of Fatigue Analysis(Succeeding Edition) (in Korean) in 2020 with Korean Professor Chung-Youb Kim

Chung-Youb Kim is Professor in School of Mechanical Design Engineering of Chonnam National University, Yosu, Korea. He received his B.S. (1986) in Mechanical Engineering of Korea University, Seoul, Korea, M.S. (1988) and Ph.D. degrees (1993) in Mechanical Engineering of KAIST, Korea, under the guidance of Professor Ji-Ho Song. In 1993, he had worked for Mando Co. as Senior Research Engineer Durability Testing Team for Chassis Components. In 1977, he joined the Chonnam National University, Yosu, Korea. In 2008, he was Visiting Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University,  USA, with the help of Professor K.J. Hemker and W.N. Sharpe, Jr. His research interests include  fatigue testing under random loading and analysis of thin film materials and mechanical components. He translated Faigue Crack-Crack Closure and Growth Rate Prediction (in Korean) in 2006 with Professor Ji-Ho Song and published Dictionary of Fatigue Fracture and Fatigue Strength of Materials (Fatiguepedia of Materials) (in Korean) in 2011 with Korean Professors Ji-Ho Song and Jun-Hyub Park,  and Korean Researcher Hak-Joo Lee,  Fundamentals of Fatigue Analysis(in Korean) in 2016 with Korean Professor Ji-Ho Song, and Expert System for Fatigue Life Predictions (CD Included) in 2017 with Korean Professors Ji-Ho Song and Jun-Hyub Park. Fundamentals of Fatigue Analysis(Succeeding Edition)(in Korean) in 2020 with Korean Professor Ji-Ho Song.

This book demonstrates fatigue crack growth under random loading graphically. This state-of-the-art monograph introduces an expert system for crack growth predictions, particularly based on crack closure. The system is developed after years of research by the authors by using the Math-type software consisting of 5 parts. This system is unique as it is fundamentally different from previous systems as it focuses on fatigue crack growth predictions based on fatigue crack closure. This book can be a useful guide for practicing engineers, researchers, and students in the fields of mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering.

Covers nearly all equations to express fatigue crack growth (propagation)
Important problems in fatigue crack growth of materials.- Composition of the expert system developed for fatigue crack growth predictions, FatiCraGro Expert.- Part I of the expert system: Material details.- Part II of the expert system: Fatigue crack growth properties.- Part III of the expert system: Specimens and their Stress Intensity Factor K Expression.- Part IV of the expert system: Load histories and Cycle Counting.- Part V of the expert system: Detailed prediction methods of fatigue crack growth.- Part VI of the expert system: Reporting of results obtained.- Configuration of the expert system and Installing and running the expert system.
