Béla Zsolt Szakács (PhD 1998) is head of the Department of Art History at Pázmány Péter Catholic University and associate professor in the Department of Medieval Studies at CEU. He is contributing member of the Cultural Heritage Program at CEU as well. He was instrumental in launching a CEU research project focusing on the visual resources of medieval East Central Europe.
The manuscript known as the Hungarian Angevin Legendary, made for Hungarian royal patrons, is an extraordinary relic of medieval book illumination; a luxurious codex worthy of a ruler. It was created in Bologna in the early 14th century by number of painters.
