Nuclear Medicine and Brain Imaging

M. H. Sanad is an Egyptian scientist and researcher in the field of nuclear medicine. He is Assistant Professor, Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, Ph.D. in organic chemistry related to nuclear medicine from Ain Shams University. M. H. Sanad holds a lecturer (about four years), in Faculty of engineering, at the Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

An optimized protocol of this book aims to study and accumulate newly radiotracers that were used for brain imaging in the nuclear medicine field like [99mTc]histamine, [99mTc] ropinirole , [99mTc] (Sn) oxiracetam, [99mTc] bioquin HMPAO [ 99mTc]BH , [99mTc ](Na2S2O4) oxiracetam, [99mTc] N (BDTC)2 , [99mTc]N (PDTC)2 , [99mTc] N (EOEDTC)2, [99mTc] N-piracetam , [99mTc] N-histamine , [99mTc] (CO)3 DEDT , [99mTc] (CO)3-5HTIDA , [99mTc] (CO)3-OH-PP-CS2, [99mTc] (CO)3 oxiracetam , [125I] sibutramine,[125I] iodofluoxetine , [99mTc] phenobarbital , [125I] trazodone , and [125I] haloperidol. That was labeled with [125I] or [99mTc]. Factors such as the amount of oxidizing and reducing agent, amount of substrate, pH, reaction temperature and reaction time, have been systematically studied to optimize the labeling process. The labeled compound was separated and purified using thin layer chromatography (TLC), paper electrophoreses and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Biodistribution studies indicated that the [99mTc]piracetam complex has a high brain uptake of 13.5 ± 0.12 % ID/organ at 5 min post injection. That considered better than recently discovered agents.
