Banana is grown throughout the year and is well within the reach of a common man, that's why this fruit is called as Poor man's apple. It is not only the staple food of millions of people but also the most important commercial fruit crop of tropical region. Banana is mainly cultivated in 10 major countries. India ranks first in terms of area and production of banana in the world and contributes 20 per cent world's total production. Gujarat is one among the major banana growing states in the country with an estimated area of around 70,577 thousand hectare area. Banana is widely grown in almost all the districts of the State. Every banana grower, who is interested in exporting his banana to international market, needs Global Gap Certificate. For this, the banana growers must know the quality standards and parameters required. Traditionally, many farmers from our country are unknowingly fulfilling many of these good agricultural practices norms.
