Parafunctional habits have long been ignored or looked past in maintenance of oral hygiene. Parafunctional oral habits in adults usually are a continued behaviour attribute either from childhood through adolescence or could be a manifestation of a central nervous mediated disorder. These habits usually lead to loss of tooth structure, increased susceptibility to caries, tooth mobility and finally leading to partial or total loss of teeth.
