Gerhard Heufler holds a Master of Architecture, is a freelance industrial designer in Graz, was a lecturer in design analysis and ergonomics at the Mozarteum University of Arts in Salzburg and at Graz University of Technology. Professor for industrial design at theUniversity of Applied Science FH JOANNEUM in Graz since 1995 (founding member and head of department). He has won five austrian state prizes for design and numerous other national and international awards and published several books.
After his very successful book entitled 'design products' Gerhard Heufler now presents 'DESIGN BASICS', a standard publication for industrial design.DESIGN BASICS explores a wide area tracing the history of design from the roots, providing an outlook for the future, and describing comprehensive product functions, complex design processes and fundamental theories with illustrative case studies. The main subject is, however, product design - taking the conflicting interests of consumers, manufacturers and designers into consideration. Not only does the book address enquiring users, but also dedicated companies, interested engineers and designers-to-be from various fields. It is a concise introduction to industrial design written by an insider who draws on his longstanding experience both as a freelance product designer and a design lecturer at several colleges and universities.
