The numerous components of the RAAS axis are known to regulate several important functions such as blood pressure homeostasis, sodium re-absorption, vaso-contractile properties, aldosterone production, cellular growth and proliferation; and in addition are now known to exert an influence on intracellular metabolic signaling pathways as well.
