Beschreibung:

Aaron Horton is a PhD candidate in history at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His academic specialty is 20th-century Germany, with minor fields in modern Britain and east Asia. He has taught courses at four universities: East Tennessee State, Louisiana State, Grambling State, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
This study examines selected German literature dealing with issues of history and identity in light of the catastrophic reshaping of society after World War II and reunification. The work examines selected authors and works that are most relevant to the topic. In order to provide a clear understanding not only of the relevant literary themes but also of the appropriate historical context, the author provides biographical information in addition to critical literary analysis. Such context is important for determining a given author s possible motives for writing. The research will not only provide a better understanding of how history and identity have been addressed in modern German literature, identifying common and recurring themes in significant periods, but also demonstrate the value of utilizing fiction in historical research.
