Barbara Przybyszewska-Jarminska is Professor and Head of the Department of Musicology of the Institute of Arts at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in Warsaw.
Lech Sokól is Professor and Head of the Department of History and Theory of Theatre at the Institute of Arts at the PAN in Warsaw.

In ten studies by Polish authors this book offers an overview of Polish artistic culture and its relation to Western European culture. Thematically, it ranges from fine arts, sculpture and architecture to music, drama and theatre, spanning seven centuries of European artistic culture.
