Dr Victoria D. Kuttan, currently persuing her post graduation (Master of Physiotherapy) at DVVVPF's Ahmednagar. Her research interest is in the area of knee osteoarthritis. Currently she is doing a large scale experimental study in patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis under the guidance of Dr Deepak Anap.
Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorder affecting Indian population . Diagnostics measures are available to detect it. Quantitative measurement is much needed as a guide for knowing the effects of therapeutic intervention .Therefore one of the benefit of quantitatively measuring the joint space width radiographs is how various conservative technique is helping to reduce the joint load in the long run, conservative management mainly, Physiotherapy exercises (Neuromuscular training, quadriceps strengthening, use of electrotherapy modalities) braces and foot insole is first line of treatment for OA knee. These are effective strategies in reducing the amount of knee joint loading, which would halt or slow the disease progression. This studies uses correlation of the joint space width and Kellegren Lawrence grading for knowing the disease progression.
