Adams, VictoriaHello, I am Victoria Adams. An interest in people led me to initially study Psychology, which has come in useful over the years of teaching English, but it was my desire to see the world which brought me to EFL. After a brief stint in a small town in Spain and then Berlin I discovered Munich, where I stayed for 12 years.I initially began teaching general and business English then moved on to teacher training and just before my departure back to the UK had the great pleasure of meeting the editorial team and being able to start working with them, initially on a Compass project and then with the Network Now Series.I currently live and work in Yorkshire, dividing my time between teacher training on CELTA and DELTA courses, writing and giving presentations for Ernst Klett Sprachen.

After a degree in modern languages and my postgraduate studies in education in the UK, I ran away to Munich 'for one year' and stayed for eight years as an English teacher and later as a Director of Studies. My classroom experience with adult learners in Germany and my teacher training role there is what I've found most useful in writing Refresh Now, Network Now and English Compass, as good coursebooks must be designed with both learners and teachers in mind. I now teach EFL back home in the UK and keep my connection with Germany through my work for Ernst Klett Sprachen.

And I have spent a lot of that time teaching English and writing EFL books for the Network Now and Refresh Now series. As a result, I have very little spare time - but I have managed to have a couple of kids and a couple of cats.
Midlane, VivHello! I am Viv Midlane. I've been an English Language Teacher since 1982, and taught in Greece, Belgium, Italy and the UK. I've also worked in a 'wide variety' of other fields including working to develop technology to help disabled people in their day to day lives. This included teaching DJing skills to profoundly deaf teenagers. I returned to University in my 40s to take a Masters degree in English Language Teaching and Educational Technology, and am 'thinking about' taking a PhD one day. Now I work as a writer, teacher and examiner. In my spare time I go sailing and hill walking and play harmonica and guitar in blues and rock bands around Manchester.

A clear presentation of where you are in the book is given at the top of each page. Instructions are given in English throughout.
The handy Out and About booklet allows learners to continue practising their English outside the classroom. The topic of each unit is developed in Out and About and learners are given related cultural information, Internet links, out-of-the-classroom tasks and tips how to improve their learning.
Two CDs come with the book. When the CDs are played on a CD player, the learner can access the listening exercises on the Your turn pages.
CD 2 is a combined CD/CD-ROM and serves a dual purpose: When it is played on a computer, students can also access the Recap material for all units. Here students are talked through the main parts of the unit and can orally practise the structures and functions from the previous unit.
