The end of the tracks have come for Patience and Patrick. They disembark from the train and enter a desert, still searching for a place to call home. This land is already settled though, both by other refugee cells, and by a mysterious native Syriac tribe: the Hadadians.

A cruise trip around the lake brings contact between Hope and an ally she hasn't seen in ages. This complicates her soul quandry regarding Marna's crown prince, and forces her to choose between old love and new beginnings.
