Beschreibung:

Clifford Witting (1907-68) was an English writer who was educated at Eltham College, London, between 1916 and 1924. During World War II he served as a bombardier in the Royal Artillery, 1942-44, and as a Warrant Officer in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, 1944-46. His first novel Murder in Blue was published in 1937 and his series characters were Sergeant (later Inspector) Peter Bradford and Inspector Harry Charlton. His novels are now enjoying a resurgence of interest, and this is the 10th of his novels that Galileo has reissued. the others are, in order of new publication: Catt Out of the Bag, Murder in Blue, Dead on Time, Measure for Murder, Midsummer Murder, Subject Murder, Let X be the Murderer, The Case of the Michaelmas Goose and A Bullet for Rhino.
Work was mounting up, Detective Inspector Charlton did not feel too well and he could have done without Mr Otto Bajornsen. Yet had not this untidy, smiling man come on his fact-finding trip to Downshire, the affair of the Busy Bees might have had a very different conclusion. Even as he sat talking in Charlton's office in Lulverton, the wheels were being set in motion and Mr Theophilus Mildwater, curator of the Monk Jewel Museum, was anxiously reporting the loss of Exhibit 115, a valuable - and dangerous - tomahawk.
