Professor Lakshmi Nagarajan is Consultant Neurologist/Epileptologist and Head of the Department of Neurology at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, Perth, Western Australia. She also runs the Comprehensive Epilepsy Programme for Children and Adolescents in Western Australia. Her research interests include neonatal seizures, childhood epilepsy, paediatric neurology and clinical neurophysiology. Prof Nagarajan is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Child Neurology Association and the Australian New Zealand Child Neurology Society. She has published close to 50 papers in peer reviewed journals.
A better understanding of neural activity and the development of cortical connections and networks is an important requirement for evaluating the cause and treatment of neonatal seizures. There have been many advances in the management of neonatal seizures such as increased use of EEGs, therapeutic hypothermia for HIE and exome sequencing, to name a few.
