It’s 1987 Manchester and feisty sixteen year old Jess is sick of her bossy dad, Cyril, and submissive mum, Doreen; she hates her life. When good-looking, charming 24 year old Eddie shows an interest, she is soon swept up in his world of alcohol, crime and debt. As she arrives at Tommy Duck’s pub, for their second date, she sees Eddie talking to a flashy blonde. Jess ignores her suspicions, gets drunk and stays out all night at Eddie’s. The row she has with her dad, next day, strengths her decision to leave home. What follows is a break-neck, brutal, coming of age story as Jess struggles to make her new life work in the most difficult circumstances.
