Beschreibung:

His current research focuses on the rheology and micromechanics of materials consisting of particles interacting assemblies, particularly granular assemblies in quasi-static deformation or flow. He teaches statistical physics at the Ecole des Ponts; is Course Manager at the East Paris University of discontinuous and granular materials - in the master Soil Mechanics, Rocks and Works in their Environment;
Roux also collaborates with The team Rheophysics, The " Mutliechelle " team and the Geotechnical team at Navier Laboratory, and with the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Laboratory (CNRS and University of Montpellier).
Grain Packings and Basic Mechanisms of Granular Material contains valuable chapters that delve deep into topics of interest, including ingredients of a model on different scales, the granular and colloidal nature of interactions across the grain and contacts, granular assemblies' static structure, dependence on manufacturing processes, characteristics, and the possible role of cohesion.

Additional chapters present the latest information on elasticity, elastic regime, instability and rupture of contact networks, the concept of quasi-static evolution, the evolution of texture and internal variables, the ingredients of a "élastiplastique model (criterion, flow rule, hardening), and a final section that deals with the microscopic and macroscopic properties of the attractor state under monotonic shearing, generalization to inertial flow, and relevance to the rheology of concentrated suspensions.

Provides an understanding of the physical nature of granular mechanics
Presents a guide on good practice of granular (discrete element) simulation
Includes a cross-disciplinary approach to the topics presented
1. Definitions and properties of a granular material
2. Static Granular Assemblies
3. Contact Network Mechanic
4. Evolution of contact network through rearrangements and Elastroplasticity
5. The Critical State and its generalizations
