Antonio Muñoz Molina wurde 1956 im andalusischen Úbeda geboren. Sein belletristisches Werk ist vielfach preisgekrönt; so wurde er beispielsweise gleich zwei Mal mit dem spanischen Staatspreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet. 1995 wurde er in die Königlich Spanische Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung aufgenommen. Muñoz Molina lebt derzeit in Madrid und New York City, wo er bis 2006 das Instituto Cervantes leitete. 2013 wurde er mit dem Prinz-von-Asturien-Preis ausgezeichnet.
