Before History...

Tesni has a secret. While the other members of her clan hunt animals for food, Tesni has forged a secret friendship with a family of wild horses who live near her clan's cave.

Now, a famine threatens Tesni's family - horse and human alike. With food scarce and the people growing weak and sick, Tesni must choose whether her loyalties lie with her human family, or her horses.

Or is there another way? When Tesni learns that a boy from her clan is conducting forbidden experiments into new ways to find food, she knows she has to help him. If they succeed, it could mean a new partnership between horses and humans that her ancestors never dreamed of.
