Beschreibung:

Kwame Essien is a Derrick K. Gondwe fellow and an assistant professor of history and Africana studies at Lehigh University.
Brazilian-African Diaspora in Ghana is a fresh approach to the study of the African Diaspora. It examines the paradox of freedom in discussing how emancipated Brazilian-Africans who settled in Ghana came under threat from British colonial officials. Essien considers anew the contention between the returnees and other entities that were simultaneously vying for control over land in Accra as well as recent property disputes amongst the Tabom (descendants of the returnees). He also tackles the fluidity of memory and how it continues to inspire the Tabom to travel to Brazil--illustrating unending journeys across the African diaspora.
