Ragsdale, a researcher and writer living in Austin, conducted more than eighty interviews with key people from the centennial era and scoured state and national archives and private collections in compiling information and gathering photographs for this engrossing story. Ragsdale, who holds the Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Texas at Austin, is the author of several other books and articles on Texas history, including Quicksilver: Terlingua and the Chisos Mining Company, published by Texas A&M University Press.
