Peter Cheyney (1896-1951) war ein britischer Autor von Hardboiled novels. Er arbeitete vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg als Angestellter, während des Krieges im Labour Corps Record Office. 1936 veröffentlichte er seinen ersten Kriminalroman. In den nächsten 15 Jahren verfasste er mindestens zwei Romane pro Jahr. Den eigentlichen Erfolg seiner Werke erlebte Cheyney nicht mehr.
