Robert Swindells (geb. 1939 Bradford) gehört zu den bekanntesten englischen Jugendbuchautoren der 90er Jahre. Bereits als Fünfzehnjähriger verließ er die Schule, um bei einer Zeitung als Korrekturleser zu arbeiten. Mit siebzehn ging er für drei Jahre zur englischen Luftwaffe, um sich danach auf dem zweiten Bildungsweg zum Lehrer auszubilden. Heute lebt der Autor in Oxenhope (Yorkshire). Für seine Werke wurde er mit dem "Guardian Children's Fiction Award" und der "Carnegie Medal" ausgezeichnet.
