Eric Berne wurde 1910 in Montreal/Kanada geboren. Er studiere an der McGill University/Montreal Medizin und promovierte 1935 mit einer Arbeit über Psychiatrie. Vvon 1941 bis 1943 war er als Psychiater im New York Psychoanalytic Institute tätig, danach als Dozent an der University of California Medical School und Direktor des San Francisco Social Psychiatry Seminar. Eric Berne starb 1970.
