From training students to be geography teachers in University Departments of Education, and 'A' level examiner in physical geography, he later used his deep interest in the psychological aspects of student learning and motivation to study and qualify as a psychologist. In retirement, the climate 'wars' redirected his interest back to Earth sciences.
