DR MICHIEL S. DE VRIES is Senior Lecturer of Public Policy Analysis at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Free University, Amsterdam. He obtained his MA at the University of Groningen and his PhD at the University of Utrecht. He is the author of a number of books and several articles on public policy analysis, evaluation methods and international relations published both I the Netherlands and abroad.
This is a book about making choices based on the evaluation of alternatives. The outcomes of choices are often worse than people expect. This book discusses the major problems in evaluating courses of action and examines the political contexts in which decisions are made. The subject matter of this book is at the crossroads of policy and research methodology.
