Winston Leonhard Spencer Churchill, geboren 1874 in Blenham Palace; 1900 als Konservativer Mitglied des Unterhauses, ab 1906 mehrfach Minister; ab Mai 1940 Premierminister. Zusammen mit Th. Roosevelt entwarf und verkündete er 1941 die "Atlantic-Charta". 1953 wurde Churchill geadelt, im selben Jahr erhielt er für sein historisches und literarisches Werk den Literaturnobelpreis und 1956 den Karlspreis. Er starb 1965.Martin Gilbert, geboren 1936 in London, ist ein international renommierter britischer Historiker, der sich auf die Themen Judentum und Israel spezialisiert hat. Bekannt geworden ist er durch eine weltweit hoch gelobte Churchill-Biographie, als Autor von Beschreibungen des Ersten und Zweiten Weltkriegs sowie durch mehrere Bücher über den Holocaust. Er hat außerdem zwölf historische Atlanten veröffentlicht. Seine Bücher sind in viele Sprachen übersetzt worden. Martin Gilbert lebt in London.
