Makes available in concise form information on primary, non-artifactual collections in anthropology that are often exceptionally large and organizationally complex. Presents a list, by country and state, of some 250 sources of anthropological scholarship preserved in selected archives, libraries, and museums, primary in Canada and the US, but with a few representatives in Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, and other countries. Sources described encompass social and cultural anthropology, ethnology, physical and biological anthropology, archaeology, folklore, and some aspects of linguistics. Material includes original scholars' field notes, site reports, papers, manuscripts, archives, oral history collections, sound recordings, photographs, films, and videos. Some library collections of anthropological importance have been included. Most entries are authored by anthropologists, librarians, archivists, or curators who are experts in the material they describe.
