Richard Avedon wurde am 15. Mai 1923 in New York City geboren. Sein Vater war als jüdisch-russischer Einwanderer in die USA gekommen und in einem New Yorker Waisenhaus aufgewachsen. Zu Avedons Markenzeichen gehört der weiße, leere Hintergrund, auf dem nichts vom Motiv ablenkt. Neben den Schönen und Prominenten der Welt lichtete der Künstler das Leben von Arbeitern, Demonstrationen gegen den Vietnamkrieg, Kriegsopfer und Landstreicher ab.
Zum Jahreswechsel 1989/90 fotografierte er eine Reportageserie über Berliner nach dem Mauerfall. Seine Bilder gelten als schonungslos und detailgenau.
2004 starb Richard Avedon, der einer der berühmtesten Mode- und Porträtfotografen der Welt war.
André Gregory, geboren 1934, prominenter Vertreter der amerikanischen Avantgarde-Theaterbewegung, war einer der einflußreichsten Schauspieler/Regisseure der Off-Broadway-Szene in den frühen Siebzigern. Aus privaten Gründen gab er das Theater für fünf Jahre auf. Er kündigte sein Comeback mit einem sehr unorthodoxen Film an: "My Dinner with André", in der Regie von Louis Malle. Gregory spielte u.a. in "Die letzte Versuchung Christi" (1988), "Fegefeuer der Eitelkeiten" (1990) und "Demolition Man" (1993).
