Sandy Richardson published her first work of middle grade fiction The Girl Who Ate Chicken Feet (Dial Books for Young Readers) in 1998 which received an outstanding merit rating from Bank Street College's The Best of Children's Books (1999). The Girl Who Ate Chicken Feet was also nominated for the South Carolina Junior Book Award in 2001-2002. In addition, her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in several anthologies such as The Pettigrew Review, Porches: An Anthology, Cows: A Rumination, and Beacham's Guide to Literature for Young Adults. Her articles and essays have also been published on several on-line websites. Her nonfiction essay "Nana's Basket" received a nomination for the Pushcart Prize in 2013. Sandy is presently at work on completing two middle-grade novels and a short story collection. In July 2016, she took the leap and established her own publishing imprint: Southern Sass Publishing Alliances where she hopes to share great stories from many hearts. She is a member of the national Society of Children's Book Writers and blogs about writing, life, and other passing thoughts at SouthernSassPublishingAlliances.com and SandyRichardson.wordpress.com.
If you are or ever have been married, chances are you have one-or maybe even more than one. And if you're about to be one, your hope is to be a good one. So, what is this "one"? Actually, it's a "who." According to recent studies, this person contributes tension to approximately sixty percent of all marriages. Some label her fearsome, loathsome, conniving, interfering, the monster-of-all-monsters. Others claim she is a sweet, second mother. But more realistically, she is most often just a person somewhere between the two extremes. She is-THE MOTHER-IN-LAW. His Mother! is not a self-help book or a how-to manual. It is a collection of real-life accounts from modern-day women representing a range of ages, religions, nationalities, education and even hair color. It is a collection of writings that offers poignant, sweet, bitter, amusing, sarcastic, and joyful reminders of how complicated the woman and the relationship can be. By the turn of the last page, you may meet someone whom you already know, or perhaps someone you once knew. You might even meet someone you'd like to know or be. For sure, there are opportunities to laugh, to cry, and maybe even do both at the same time. These stories offer all of this because well...she is after all... His Mother!
