Liz Van Vliet is a mother of three and wife to one. Liz was one of the 91% of Australian women who survived breast cancer but struggled to reconcile what she was experiencing post-treatment was worth surviving. Liz is committed to helping other breast cancer survivors feel okay about not being okay and that truly identifying as a survivor (and dare we say it, thriving) is possible.
Liz describes her career and work history as a jungle gym rather than a ladder. Up, down and across but always learning and developing. Her background in sales and marketing have equipped her with a treasure chest of communication and interpersonal skills that she now shares via her training and coaching business, Being Indispensable. She helps Executive Assistants and Office Professionals be perceived as indispensable by developing and improving what she calls their POWER skills (because she believes they're anything but soft). Liz is the host of the Being Indispensable podcast show and is also an in-demand speaker at conferences and events talking about resilience, personal growth and development and POWER skills. She can be found at lizvanvliet.com and wastes far too much time hanging out on Instagram and Twitter. Follow her at @lizveevee and join the conversation over at Facebook at facebook.com/cominghomefrombc.
"Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, when it dawned on me I was a long way from home I set

off to go back. Unfortunately, the home I left is one I can never return to."
Liz Van Vliet thought that when her hair started growing back, the worst part of having breast cancer was behind her. She became adept at 'smiling and waving' and convincing the world that it was onwards and upwards for her and her family. But inside, she was feeling anything like a survivor; acutely depressed and suicidal as she dealt with chronic pain and PTSD. Making it onto Survivor Highway meant accepting that this was not a round trip and that she needed to create a new home and a new normal for her and her family.
Coming Home from Breast Cancerville is the story of how she and her family navigated the potholes and obstacles and found the strength to create a new home and find new purpose and meaning on Survivor Highway. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to know what surviving actually looks like.
