Beschreibung:
Mikhail F. Limonov is a leading research scientist at the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a research fellow at the National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics. He has worked for more than 30 years in the optical research community, focusing on various dielectrics, fullerenes, zeolites, superconductors, and photonic crystals.
One of the first books specifically focused on disorder in photonic structures, this work explores how both order and disorder provide the key to the different regimes of light transport and to the systematic localization and trapping of light. Leading researchers describe one-, two-, and three-dimensional structures, including opals, aperiodic Fibonacci-type photonic structures, photonic amorphous structures, photonic glasses, Lévy glasses, and hypersonic, magnetophotonic, and plasmonic-photonic crystals with nanocavities, quantum dots, and lasing action. The book also addresses practical applications in areas such as optical communications and laser surgery.
