John Vogler is Professor of International Relations at Keele University and Chair of the British International Studies Association Environment Working Group. He has written a comparative analysis of regimes in The Global Commons: Environmental and Technological Governance (2000) and has edited and contributed to Environment Working Group publications, with Mark Imber, The Environment and International Relations (1996); and with Alan Russell, The International Politics of Biotechnology: Investigating Global Futures (2000). A currentmajor interest is the emergence of the European Union as a global actor, and he has co-authored, with Charlotte Bretherton, a book with this title(1999), as well as writing a number of related articles.
This clear and readable introduction to controversial issues in the biological sciences will be a valuable resource for students of science policy and bioethics and for professionals in industry, government, and nongovernmental organizations who need background on emerging issues in the biological sciences.
"This book is a significant contribution to the field. In eleven substantive chapters it describes in well-documented and accurate detail cases in which science issues have developed and been subject to policy making. The book is strong on technical discussion of these scientific issues and does so in language a nonscientist can understand."--Barbara Redman, Dean and Professor, College of Nursing, Wayne State University "This book is a significant contribution to the field.
