Julia Lovell, geboren 1975, lehrt chinesische Geschichte und Literatur an der Universität Cambridge. Sie lebte längere Zeit in China und schreibt als freie Autorin für so renommierte Magazine wie The Times, Guardian, Economist und The Times Literary Supplement.Lu Xun (eigentlich Zhou Shuren) wurde 1881 in Shaoxing, Provinz Zhejiang, geboren und starb 1936 in Shanghai. Stationen seines Lebens sind: traditionelle Ausbildung in einer Privatschule, Studium des Bergbaus in Nanjing und der Medizin in Japan, Mittelschullehrer in seiner Heimatprovinz, Beamter im Erziehungsministerium, Professor an verschiedenen chinesischen Universitäten (Peking, Xiamen, Guangzhou), freie literarische Tätigkeit in Shanghai.
