Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. By particular request and with some reluctance (because my convictions clash with my sentiments) I have added to this series of short lectures a few words about the problem which chiefly exercises men's minds in relation to the formation of new boundaries or the restoration of old ones - the problem of alsace-lorraine. This forms no part of the lecture series. In a few cases I have introduced historical references, but it is only in those instances where the geographical position or configuration of a country has so obviously shaped its history as to furnish an example in support of my theories about boundaries.
