According to the World Health Organization, infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms commonly fail to respond to conventional treatment and can result in an extended illness or a greater risk of death. With MDR microorganisms becoming more widespread and a lack of new antibiotics in the drug development pipeline, it is necessary to consider new and effective treatments. This book, Fighting Multidrug Resistance with Herbal Extracts, Essential Oils and Their Components, explores approaches to combat MDR bacteria, fungi, protozoa and more by using natural products, such as herbs and their essential oils and extracts. Written and edited by international experts, this book focuses on combinations between antibiotics and herbal products, mechanisms of action, the advantages and disadvantages of using natural herbs and much more.
